The People

While the Canadian Bushhawks Liaison Squadron counts members worldwide, the Squadron is known primarily for its founders:  Lauren (L. J.) Lee and T. J. Lilliman.

The Squadron was founded in 1991 by this close-knit pair of aviation enthusiasts on an appropriately tiny pea-patch airstrip in Southwestern Ontario.

L. J. and T. J. are an ordinary couple with an extraordinary passion for aviation – and for each other!

Flying partners for several years, we married at an airshow in 1994 – complete with a flypast of five T-6 Harvards from the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association that drowned out our wedding vows!

Our home base, Bushhawk Creek, is a 50-acre farm on the north shore of Lake Erie, with a timber-frame hangar, a tidy 1860s Ontario cottage, and a 3,600’ x 100’ grass airstrip just outside our kitchen door.

Each September we welcome our friends and colleagues for a weekend-long barbecue, “The Autumn Gathering of Hawks,” at the Creek.  In 2001, our attendance was a record 176 aircraft over the two days.
